Why is there more variety in the men's clothing section?
If you browse our website, you'll notice that our men's collection offers a wider selection than our women's collection. In short, it's the opposite of what you'd find with other clothing brands. Why is that?
1/ We started with the men's locker room
In 2017, when we launched Loom, we only offered a men’s collection… simply because the two co-founders (Julia and Guillaume) shop in the men’s section. We didn’t launch the first pieces of the women’s collection until 2021, so it’s four years “behind.” However, we develop our clothing slowly (laboratory durability tests, extensive wear-testing, etc.)—we want to ensure that it meets our standards and that we can continue to sell it for another 10 years. So the women’s collection hasn’t caught up with the men’s collection yet.
2/ We sell fewer women's clothes than men's clothes
We sell about twice as many men's clothes as women's. For example, for every pair of briefs we sell, we sell two pairs of boxers. As a result, it's harder to meet our factories' minimum order quantities when we want to launch a new product or a new color. This can therefore prevent us from launching certain products or colors in our women's line.
This situation is temporary.
The more time passes, the more our sales of women's clothing increase, and the more new products we develop for that collection. On the other hand, we will soon have "completed" the development of clothing for the men's collection—so it won't grow much further. Eventually, we will likely have two collections of similar size.
Wait, but isn't talking about men's or women's locker rooms a little sexist?
